Acronis True Image 9.0 - BartPE Plugin

NOTE: This plugin needs two other plugins in your setup to function correctly:

Make sure you download and configure these two PlugLab plugins before you use this TrueImage plugin.

If you already have an old z_UpperFilters plugin in your setup that only consits of one file "UpperFilters.inf", just delete that old plugin and completely replace it with the new PlugLab version.

The PlugLab "z_UpperFilters" plugin has extended functions. It scans your entire setup for active UpperFilter settings to ensure all settings are consolidated and active (not only the one that happens to be processed last by PEbuilder).

Read the help file of the PlugLab "z_UpperFilters" plugin. It has to be refreshed (run its AutoHelp.cmd) everytime you add/remove or enable/disable any plugins that contain UpperFilter settings. If e.g. you add Acronis Disk Director to your setup later, its addl UpperFilter settings will be picked up by the PlugLab "z_UpperFilters" plugin on refresh.

True Image Plugin configuration

To configure the plugin run the AutoHelp.cmd and follow the prompts.

Mustang has researched the registry entries and files required for the program to work in BartPE.

Siegfried has done the AutoHelp scripting for the automatic setup of the plugin, including the multi-version consolidation of 9 seperate plugins into one.

... about the program:

Acronis True Image 9.0. The complete disk imaging, system disk backup, and bare metal restore for workstations and home PCs.
Acronis True Image allows you to create an exact disk image for complete system backup and disk cloning providing the most comprehensive data protection.
The disk backup file contains the exact copy of a hard disk, including all the computer data, operating system, and programs.
After a system crash you can restore the entire system or simply replace lost files and folders from your disk backup.
Based on the exclusive Acronis Drive Snapshot disk imaging technology, Acronis True Image allows you to create an online system disk backup without reboot to keep the system productive. The product provides the fastest bare metal restore dramatically reducing a downtime and your IT costs.

Using the program in BartPE

All operations should work as expected except for the "Manage System Restore" feature.

You can build a Rescue disk. You can manage a secure zone. You can create a new secure zone. You may see an additional error message about not being able to read from the hard drive when you create a new secure zone. If you do, click on the “Ignore All” button. Boot back into normal Windows and check to see if a secure zone was created. For me it was. You can activate the Recovery Manager feature in an existing secure zone.

Image Mounting

In order to get image mounting to work properly under BartPE, the upper filters are managed by "TrueImage9.1x1".

This loader script for the PlugLab "PeFuncs.exe" starts the services before it starts TrueImage and it also manages the upper filters according to the task you want to perform with TrueImage.

UpperFilter Mode switching:

When you start TrueImage you will be prompted to select the mode:

the "Normal (Create/Restore) Mode" or  "Image Mounting Mode".

If you selected "Image Mounting Mode" you can mount and unmount images from the True Image main GUI using the normal procedure. After you close TrueImage, the registry settings for the UpperFilters are set back to a normal condition, that is required for other programs to run correctly.

In essence:

1.) make sure you are in the right "UpperFilter Mode" for what you want to do with TrueImage

2.) Close and restart TrueImage to switch modes

NOTE:

If you try to mount an image after you started TrueImage into Normal Mode, you will get an error message.

Just close out the error message, close TrueImage and re-start it into Image Mounting Mode.

Image mounting works as expected under XPE. If you are using a normal BartPE, when you mount an image, you will see an error message. It is a false error message. Just close it and you will see the drive letter successfully assigned message.
